At The Community Foundation, we take our responsibility as stewards of a charitable "savings account" very seriously.
During recent months, we have seen a series of dramatic financial events creating significant challenges for our financial markets. None of us have been unaffected by this reality.
Already, we have noticed the effect of the economic downturn on our grantee organizations' ability to serve those in need. Our nonprofit partners report the number of people in need is increasing while their resources remain, at best, fixed. Some local nonprofits may not make it through this difficult period. But as the old saying goes, "this too shall pass." And when it passes, the people of Middle Tennessee will, no doubt, have come together to do all they possibly could to make sure our neighbors have not gone without.
In that vein, it is important for you to know that even in these tough times, your gifts to support our community matter. We know you may feel you have less to give than you did, but don't let that discourage you from giving.
Join us in our work to help provide solutions for our community. The first of two examples is our work on The Fund for Strategic Opportunities, which is helping nonprofits streamline administrative, back-office work, creating the most economical platform from which to serve those in need in our community; and through The Angel Fund, we provide funding directly to nonprofit managers so that they can help their clients get through these tough times.
