This scholarship fund is a part of the CFMT General Scholarship Application that is open annually from December 1st to February 1st.

Eligibility: Those eligible to apply must be high school seniors from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee wishing to enter the music business or undertake a career in the arts. It is intended to benefit students primarily from rural areas, and applicants must be focusing on a career that will introduce them to various opportunities in the music business or some discipline of the arts. Preference will be given to students from rural high schools in South Carolina.

In keeping with Josh Turner’s journey to a successful career in the music industry in spite of having grown up without the benefit of a comprehensive arts program in his high school, he established a Scholarship Fund at the CFMT to support students from rural areas in ten southern states wishing to enter the music business or undertake a career in the arts.

“Growing up in rural South Carolina, I attended a small school,” says Turner. “In fact, there were only 75 people in my graduating class. And that translated into not a lot of opportunities when it came to music.”

The Josh Turner Scholarship Fund supports students planning a career that will introduce them to various opportunities in the music business, from performing, writing, or publishing to managing or producing, or some discipline of the arts, such as graphic design, photography, or painting.
