Celebrating CFMT Scholars
For Emily Green, scholarships meant more than just financial support – they were a lifeline to opportunity and a belief in her potential. As a recipient of both the Teddy Wilburn Scholarship and the Alan Baran Fine Arts and Music Scholarship, she felt seen and supported by those who read her story.
Now, Emily sits on the other side of the process, reviewing applications for CFMT and helping to shape the future for other students.
“When I read applications now, I try and see the person behind the words – their heart and their purpose – just as I believe the committee members did for me years ago. Reviewing these applications has brought back a deep sense of gratitude and nostalgia for the journey I've been on.”
Emily’s journey is a powerful reminder of how scholarships not only create opportunities but also inspire recipients to give back in meaningful ways.

At the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, scholarships are more than just financial aid – they’re a gateway to opportunity, growth, and connection.
Trehon Coleman knows this firsthand. As an inaugural recipient of the Teddy Wilburn Scholarship, Trehon’s journey was deeply impacted, opening doors to new opportunities and growth. Today, he’s come full circle, reviewing applications for CFMT and helping select the next generation of scholars.
“Every time I read an application, I think about the times I submitted my own. I remember debating how much or how little to share. Today, I'm so proud of the applicants for their courage in sharing their hardships. It makes you feel connected to each student in a good way and reminds you of how powerful their stories are.”
Trehon’s story is a testament to the impact of CFMT scholarships and the strength of community. It’s a reminder that every scholarship granted not only changes a life but inspires a ripple effect of generosity and support.
